Our 78th “Follow them Friday” features Laurence from As Cooked By Ginger who blogs in Dutch.
When did you start blogging?
I started blogging in September 2015. So I haven’t been doing this for a very long time.
How did you decide on the name of your blog?
I told my brother I wanted to start a blog but I had difficulties deciding on a name. So we started brainstorming together and all of sudden he came up with As Cooked By Ginger and I really liked it. So credits go out to my brother for the name.
What was the title of your first ever blog post?
My first post was about cookies. Plain, simple, buttery vanilla cookies. I still make them from time to time and they have become a classic
What is your favourite dish to share?
One word: Pasta. A big pot of delicious pasta in the middle of the table and a lot of happy and hungry people around it. That’s what life is all about.
What is your favourite comfort food?
My favorite comfortfood must be soup. A big bowl of soup with a lot of veggies, some chicken, shrimp, beef,… and some pasta, rice, noodles or potatoes thrown in there. That is the stuff, right there. I’m always cold, so soup is my best friend.
What is your favourite dessert?
I’m in love with all sorts of crumbles. Apple, blueberries, raspberries, peach, rhubarb,… I’m also a big fan of chocolate. I never go a day without chocolate. After dinner, I always eat a small piece. White, dark, milk,.. I love it all.
How do you like your eggs in the morning?
With the sunny side up.
What has been your biggest recipe failure?
My biggest recipe failure was a dish with lentils, apple, smoked mackerel and some other veggies, with a honey-mustard sauce. It was absolutely horrible. My fiancée tried to be polite and eat it, but it was too sad to watch so we threw it all out and ate a sandwich.
What are the three things you always have in your freezer?
-Soup. I always have soup in my freezer, it’s my go to meal when I don’t feel like cooking when I’m home alone.
– Frozen mixed berries. I always have this in my freezer because you can use them for smoothies, yoghurt, ice cream, crumbles and all kinds of desserts. Plus, berries are delicious.
– Celery and leek, because they form a good base for soups and sauces.
How do you spend your time when you’re not blogging?
I’m a social worker at a hospital, so that’s where I spend most of my time. If I’m not blogging in my free time, I’m probably doing fun things with my friends, family and fiancée. I have two super cute nieces whom I love to spend time with and I also really like to go shopping. Oh, and I read a lot of books, especially during the summer.
Who are your favourite food bloggers?
I absolutely love Green Kitchen Stories, Nourish Atelier, Reblondonfridge and Kokerellen
Who are your favourite non-food bloggers?
I really like Song of Style, Sofie Valkiers and Parce Que Toi.
